After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

• actively use theoretical knowledge of all basic and selected disciplines of contemporary Czech language, explain their relationships and methods
• explain the development of linguistic phenomena and understand the current state of language as a result of language development
• actively use theoretical knowledge of literary theory, history and literary criticism, explain the methodology of literary science
• apply new knowledge of linguistic and literary disciplines and didactics of Czech language and literature when teaching
• develop students' reading and encourage them to read the valuable literary works, strengthen the relationship of cultural values through literature
• cultivate communication, to create and develop communication skills, to cultivate relationship with the mother tongue
• apply theoretical linguistic and literary knowledge in their own activities and to develop this skill in their students when creating their own texts
• act autonomously in the classroom and become a fully qualified teacher
• develop their skills in further education (lifelong learning courses, lectures and seminars, etc.)

Graduates are fully qualified for the following professions:

- Teacher of Czech language and literature at lower secondary schools;

- Teacher of Czech language and literature at various types of secondary schools;

- Instructor or lecturer in education centres;

- Instructor or lecturer in free-time activity centres;

- An employee in cultural institutions requiring education in the Czech language and literature (language consultant on radio and television, theatre, specialist in literary archives, museums);

- Language editor or proofreader.

The possibility of extending skills to other professions within the field (work in specialized scientific institutions, work in libraries etc.).

The standard duration of this two-field programme is 4 semesters. To be able to take the final state examination, students must obtain a total of 120 credits in required, selective and elective courses (including credits for courses focused on writing the Master's thesis, for subjects from the pedagogical and psychological module, teaching practice and a chosen foreign language).

For the entire studies in Teacher Training in Czech Language and Literature for primary and secondary schools students have to obtain at least 26 credits in required and selective linguistic and literary courses and 7 required credits in the didactics of Czech language and literature. In addition, students can choose according to their interests and future professional orientation from a wide range of elective courses to expand their future professional lives. Over the entire studies students have to obtain a minimum of 6 credits in elective courses offered at any MU field.

A mandatory part of the studies is teaching practice undertaken in the 1st to 3rd semesters. In the first semester they have Teaching practice 1 organized by the Department of Education. The Department of Czech Language and Literature guarantees Teaching practice 2 in the 2nd semester and Teaching practice 3 at the end of the third semester.

- In the field of Teacher Training in Czech language and literature for primary and secondary schools Teaching practice 2 counts for 50 hours: 30 hours of practice within the school and 20 hours of preparation for teaching. The students' responsibility is to teach a minimum of 10 hours in the course Czech language and literature.

- Teaching practice 3 counts for 60 hours: 40 hours of practice within the school and 20 hours of preparation for teaching. The students' responsibility is to teach a minimum of 20 hours in the course Czech language and literature.

During their time at the primary and secondary schools students undertake either direct teaching activities, or assistant work for the teacher mentor (checking pupils' work, making teaching aids, pupil supervision, working on class documentation, assisting pupils with special needs, preparation and implementation of projects, etc.).

Both courses of Teaching practice are linked to the subject of a seminar on Teaching practice for 3 x 2 hours in the 2nd and 3rd semesters. The seminar is led by departmental didactics of the Department of Czech Language and Literature in cooperation with a teacher or psychologist. In the seminar the students reflect on their practical experience in a small group of students.

The programme is completed with a final state examination (SFE), which includes:

- Oral examination in the Czech language, consisting of linguistic analysis of a text, answering a theoretical question on linguistics and a question on didactics of Czech language and style ;

- An oral examination in Czech literature consisting of answers to a theoretical question on literary theory and history (from the beginning to contemporary literature) and an answer to a question on didactics of literary education. A precondition for successful completion of the examination in Czech literature is also the ability to interpret literary work/text taking account of the structural layers and context.

Both parts of the SFE have the same weight in the final evaluation.

For students who have chosen a topic for the Master's thesis guaranteed by the Department of Czech language and literature, its defense is part of the SFE.

Graduates in Teacher Training in Czech language and literature for primary and secondary school qualify for admission to the doctoral programme.
