In addition to the mathematical education, students are also trained in didactics and methodology; the courses of pedagogical-psychological specialization prepare students for the professions of educationalists and youth workers.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • teach mathematics at secondary schools
  • select appropriate teaching methods and techniques to streamline the educational process
  • choose and routinely use appropriate methods for assessing students
  • use didactic technique and be able to adapt to its development
  • formulate ideas comprehensibly and in a sophisticated way with regard to the knowledge-level of the audience

The graduates are fully qualified teachers of mathematics for all types of upper secondary schools, and upper primary schools or lower secondary schools. The combination of the obtained skills broadens the career opportunities of the graduates - they can hold other positions that require accurate thinking, responsible work with facts, ability to formulate ideas, and good communication skills (institutions focusing on basic and applied research, universities, working with the youth and extracurricular activities, popularising, professional journalism, educational activities, and others).

The graduates of this study programme obtain all the needed skills to be able to work - at the corresponding professional level using the appropriate methodological and didactic knowledge - as secondary school teachers of mathematics. The computer literacy of the graduates is also at the high level, and the graduates obtained basic teaching skills in the course of their teacher training.

The standard duration of studies is four semesters. In the course of the studies they must earn at least 18 ECTS credits for required and selective courses of the common pedagogical-psychological basis, and 12 ECTS credits for the science and social - science block of the compulsory joint courses. The Master's thesis is worth 26 ECTS credits regardless of which branch (of the two) students choose.

Two teacher training sessions in mathematics are included in the studies, each worth 2 ECTS credits. The students are required to do the the first teacher training in mathematics at selected secondary schools in Brno, while the second one can be completed at a secondary school of their choice. The students receive their teacher training from experienced secondary school teachers. Also sitting in on classes, presentations, and active participation in the running of the school form a part of the training. Since these are necessarily double-subject studies, the students are required to do the training of the same extent also in the second study programme.

The final state examination consists of two parts: Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics. The written part of the examination comes first; a few days later, students take the oral part of the examination. If students have chosen the Master's thesis in mathematics, its defence forms a part of the final state examination. The obligatory part of graduation is also the state examination in the common pedagogical-psychological basis, which is a written test. Since this is a part of double-subject studies, students must pass the final state examination also in the second study programme.

After completing the Master's degree programme the graduates may progress to the doctoral degree programmes. The most suitable study programme for them is General Questions of Mathematics.
