The basic aim of the programme Lower Secondary School Teacher Training in Physics is to prepare a fully qualified teacher of physics for lower secondary schools with the requisite knowledge and skills in Physics and Physics Education. The next aim is to develop an attitude towards further education in physics and the didactics of physics as a framework of lifelong learning. The content of the Master's programme is a synthesis of acquired professional knowledge and creation of knowledge and skills in the didactics of physics. Basic knowledge of physics is further enhanced. Field didactics focuses on the issue of didactic knowledge in physics and on integration with other natural science disciplines.

(?)

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • apply comprehensive and systematic structured knowledge and skills in physics
  • apply fundamental knowledge and skills in Didactics of Physics
  • demonstrate sufficient skills to work as a physics teacher at a lower secondary school
(?)

Graduates are fully qualified to work as physics teachers at lower secondary school. Moreover, they are qualified to work in extracurricular institutions.

(?)

The standard duration of studies is four semesters. For admittance to the final state examination students must obtain a total of 120 ECTS credits in required, selective and elective courses. Required courses constitute the basis of the discipline and make up 32 credits. The principles of checking and evaluating the study are set out in the Study and Examination Regulations of Masaryk University.

(?)

Reflected teaching practice is in accordance with the Framework concepts at PdF MU. The system of teaching practice is long term and systematically directed towards developing the professional skills of the student and preparing them for the role of teacher.

The contents of the final state examination are as follows:

- Physics and Physics Education

- Thesis defense

- Pedagogical and psychological basis for Master's studies

The state examination is based on the disciplines of physics and didactics of physics. In order to pass the state examination in Physics and Didactics of Physics the student has to demonstrate the necessary development of skills, mastery of complex knowledge and basic skills for teaching physics at lower and upper secondary schools.

The structure of the final state examinations

1st part - Physics (written and oral):

The aim of this test is to determine the degree of:

- Knowledge of basic physical concepts and ideas from various physical areas

- abilities and skills to analyze the specific situation and implement simplification in the curriculum of Physics at lower secondary schools

- Skills application of physical knowledge in other sciences and technology

2nd part - Didactics of Physics (written and oral):

The aim of this part of the examination is to determine the degree of:

- Knowledge of the teaching methods, forms and compositions useful in teaching physics

- Skills combining knowledge from physics, physics didactics, pedagogy and psychology in the teaching of physics

- Skills to transform knowledge of physics into the system of physics as a school subject in lower secondary schools

The written part of the examination is usually held on the first day and the oral part on the next day.

(?)

After completion of the Master's studies, it is possible to continue in further studies in the doctoral degree programme in Didactics of Physics or Specialisation in Pedagogy (after satisfying the admission requirements).
