After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • explain and use basic geological terminology
  • recognize principal minerals, rocks, fossils and structures
  • use common geological research methods including documentation of geological outcrops and exposures, sampling, data processing, etc.

Graduates can find employment in basic and applied research, in managerial professions and in all the spheres where both theoretical and practical knowledge of geology is required, such as institutions of geological research, universities, cultural institutions, environmental institutions and state management.

(?)

The study programme is double-subject, one of the subjects being Geology, the other one depends on student's preferences.

The standard duration of the study is six semesters. To be admitted to the final state examination, students must obtain a total of 180 credits for required, selective and elective courses of both fields. During the course of their studies, students should follow the Study Catalogue for their year of matriculation. They can access the Study Catalogues through the faculty website.

Practical training as part of the required courses is compulsory, fieldwork and field trips are elective.

The final state examination consists of two parts: 1) theoretical examination in both fields covering the knowledge of all the required courses - usually in the form of a written test and 2) Bachelor's thesis defence - students have the option of choosing between the two subjects of this double-subject programme.

Bachelor's theses may be submitted in a Czech, Slovak or English.
