This study programme is designed for students who want to gain basic theoretical knowledge simultaneously in two fields: computer science, and a second field. This knowledge will enable them to continue in subsequent Master's degree programmes depending on their professional focus. In further studies, the graduate may choose one discipline with a deeper theoretical focus. However, the study programme was not designed with this objective in mind. It is primarily intended for students who are preparing for the teaching profession and want to gain further teaching qualifications in both selected fields. In case of their interest in follow-up teacher studies, the students select the second discipline from the menu of the Faculty of Science, so that the same double-subject combination can be studied in the Master's studies.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • explain fundamental principles of computer systems, operating systems, database systems, and computer networks;
  • design algorithms and code programmes solving a given problem;
  • apply different approaches to work with data and/or computer systems according to given needs;
  • explain concepts, models, methods and results of theoretical informatics;
  • explain up-to-date findings and development trends relevant to the second selected study field (mathematics, physics, etc.).

Graduates typically continue in a subsequent two-year Master's degree programme according to the selected professional profile and thus progress towards the teaching profession with a selected double-discipline. In the subsequent study, however, they can also choose a one-discipline orientation with deeper theoretical focus. In case of interest in follow-up teacher studies, the students select the second discipline from the menu of the Faculty of Science, so that the same double-subject combination can be studied in the Master's studies.

Double-subject studies are designed for students who want to gain basic theoretical knowledge simultaneously in two fields: computer science, and a second field. This knowledge will enable them to continue in postgraduate Master's degree programmes depending on their professional focus. In further studies, the graduate may choose a single-field orientation with deeper theoretical focus and thus achieve the equivalent of the traditional five-year Master's study programme. However, the study programme was not designed with this objective in mind. It is primarily intended for students who are preparing for the teaching profession and want to gain further teaching qualifications in both selected fields. The effectuation of this study programme respects the following principles:

The combinations "informatics with another discipline" are created especially with those fields that build on mathematical foundations (mathematics, physics, chemistry). In case of interest by students and companies, unusual combinations can also be created.

This study field includes compulsory and selective subjects from the area of math, science software and information systems (subject groups IB, PB). Due to the limited space that is reserved for each of the two fields, the selection of optional subjects is significantly reduced compared to other undergraduate courses.

The subject is designed so that graduates can enter the job market if they decide not to pursue a Master's degree; however this feature was not a priority when compiling the study programme.

An integral part of the programme is a solution of a thesis specified in one of the two interdisciplinary fields with the aim to develop and demonstrate gained expertise and skills. Addressing this work as part of the study requirements is recorded and credited within the SDIPR course and can be repeated if necessary within the recommended range of two semesters. Students must obtain a total of 10 credits for solving the thesis, the distributions of credits within each semester are selected solely by the students themselves. The solution is then presented as the final thesis at the thesis defence to a field-relevant examining committee.

The study is finished by a defence of a thesis and final examination. The total study workload has a value of 180 credits.

The final state examination consists of a Bachelor's thesis defence and an oral exam aimed at checking the field-related knowledge of the students. Two questions are randomly drawn for each students before the oral exam. The student is allocated thirty minutes to answer these questions in writing. This written preparation is given to the committee and it constitutes a part of the official protocol about the final exam. Committee members are allowed to ask additional questions to the written preparation, and about other topics related to the drawn questions. The final state examination typically takes about thirty minutes, half of which is taken by the thesis defence and half by the oral exam.
