The aim of the three-year Bachelor's degree in Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport is to prepare qualified university-educated professionals for consulting on healthy lifestyles (optimization of physical and dietary routines for leisure and work activities) and optimizing the process of regeneration after training and competition among top athletes. The programme is designed for students who are interested in physical activities and sport and who want to take advantage of this interest in their future careers. Graduates of this field of study can work not only in the region of top sport and performance, but also in the primary and secondary prevention of mass non-infectious diseases through the entire age spectrum of the general population.

Graduates of the Bachelor's degree in Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport are able to develop and implement individual exercise and dietary programmes a) for optimizing the recovery of limiting systems of the human body after sports training or after the termination of leisure time and physical activity, b) to improve lifestyle within the primary and secondary prevention of chronic non-infectious diseases that adversely affect all components of the life of the whole population.

The programme is primarily focused on bio-medical knowledge and skills, which are complemented by knowledge of kinanthropology and social sciences. This programme will allow graduates to optimize the training of athletes in all sports and at all performance levels, as well as develop individual intervention programmes aimed at improving the health and quality of the lives of people throughout the age spectrum.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • describe the basic theoretical and methodological knowledge and practices of kinanthropology and medical, biological and social sciences
  • practically apply regeneration, reconditioning and nutritional practices and resources in test (model) situations
  • evaluate the nutrition of individuals, to determine body composition and physical fitness diagnostics; based on these findings suggest, along with demonstration and expert guidance, apply and recommend any intervention leading to the desired change
  • set up a regeneration and nutritional programme for clients from the sporting population at all performance levels and ages; the proposed interventions may relate to healthy persons or patients or disabled and health impaired individuals
  • apply the basic methodological knowledge of coaches
  • create and defend their professional decisions and bear full responsibility for them
  • work with basic knowledge of kinanthropological research methodology that can be applied to research projects

The Bachelor's degree in Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport applies particularly to the development and realization of intervention programmes aimed at primary and secondary prevention of dominant chronic non-infectious diseases. Another possible career path for these graduates is the possibility of optimizing sports training for top-level sports whose aim is to improve sporting performance while maintaining full health. Prescription intervention programmes for amateur athletes will improve the effectiveness of exercise intervention and the quality of people's lives.

The relatively broad education based on bio-medical, kinanthropological and social science fields will allow the graduate of Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport to undertake difficult and specific tasks, particularly in sports clubs and sports associations when working with athletes at all performance levels, in training centres, sport schools and classes, institutions focusing on exercise and dietary interventions, and in spa and tourist facilities. Graduates have the opportunity to work both at the local, municipal or national levels in the public and the private sectors. Since the content of the study programme Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport is compatible with a similar study programme in the EU, a graduate with appropriate language skills can be employed abroad.

The standard duration of the study programme is six semesters. To be able to take the final state examination, students must obtain a total of 180 credits in required and elective subjects, including credits for courses aimed at preparing the thesis. Selective courses are selected according to students' interests and future professional orientation. All students must pass a test in English. During the studies, students follow the template for studies in the MU Information System.

A compulsory part of the study programme is work experience. The student chooses from a range of options in regeneration centres or in other professional institutions focusing on primary or secondary health prevention. The aim of the experience is to offer students organizational and operational information about facilities whose activities are related to Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport. The course includes mandatory lectures by experts in the field of health prevention. The second type of work experience introduces students to the principles of operation in sports facilities, dedicated to amateur and top athletes. Students should shadow facility staff in their work of training, recovery and rehabilitation of athletes.

The work experience takes 10 hours per semester. Students are divided into groups and they choose two workplaces which they visit together.

The final state examination is oral. The purpose of the test is to verify whether the student is able to analyze a specific problem and to discuss the area of physical education and sport and the psycho-social issue of health care. The aim of the state examination is to demonstrate general knowledge and understanding of the possible connections of the various key subjects of Regeneration and Nutrition in Sport.

Part of the state examination is a theoretical exam in the Fundamentals of Social Sciences, Fundamentals of Sports Training, Regeneration and Nutrition, and Medical and Biological sciences. Part of the final examination is also the defence of a Bachelor's thesis in the range of 30 to 60 pages of basic text.

After meeting the admission conditions, graduates of the Bachelor's degree may continue in any subsequent Master's study programme in Physical Education and Sport. Preferred fields of study are Applied Kinesiology and Teaching of Physical Education and Sport.
