Study-related information
- Final state examination and dissertation defenceThe state doctoral exam (DE) must be passed after the 6th semester and before the 8th semester of the study.
To approach DE, one must have at least 150 credits for courses in the prescribed structure.
For the formal framework of DE, see https://is.muni.cz/auth/help/szr , článek 32. Státní doktorská zkouška.
The first part of DE: a discussion over 1 (of 3) randomly selected doctoral theses delivered and approved before (approval by the chief of the study; unfitting proposal can be rejected).
Each doctoral thesis submitted to DE must not overlap with a topic of the dissertation thesis; each must fit a standard (sub)field in philosophy (subfields: history of ph., ontology, epistemology, logic, ethics, etc.); maximum 1 thesis per subfield, i.e. one submit theses from 3 distinct philosophy subfields.
The second part of DE: presentation and defence of 1 submitted chapter of the dissertation thesis.
The defence (DDT) of the dissertation thesis (DT) is a culmination of the study.
It happens after the Doctoral Thesis Report is submitted and mainly after a successful Doctoral Exam (DE). A minimum of 240 credits is required.
If all formal necessities are fulfilled, both DE and DDT, respectively, may occur in 1 day.
For the formal framework of DDT, see v https://is.muni.cz/auth/help/szr , článek 34. Státní doktorská zkouška.
Typical parts of DDT: the presentation of the structure of DT according to the Doctoral Thesis Report which involves also the overview of the adopted methodology and the main results of DT; the reading of reviews, incl. critical comments and questions; replies to the comments and questions; replies to the comments and questions raised by the other members of the committee (in the form of discussion). - Requirements of the studyResearch activities:
