Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
To teach the student clinically relevant examination methods and interpretation of their results in the context of physiology.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- have a practical knowledge of methods of investigation of the functions of human organ systems,
- interpret the obtained records in relation to the physiological processes taking place in the human organism,
- derive and calculate other parameters commonly used in clinical practice from records
- be able to evaluate the results obtained by both measurement and calculation and explain any deviations.
Syllabus
  • Assessment of nutritional status.
  • Determination of the sensitivity of the respiratory center to hypercapnia.
  • Temporal and spatial summation of the u costal muscle. Blood pressure in the  man.
  • Non-invasive methods of blood pressure measurement.
  • Determination of energy expenditure by indirect calorimetry. Determination of energy expenditure by calculation.
  • Palpation of pulse. Ergometry. ECG.
  • Plethysmography - blood flow through the forearm. Mathematical model of aortic function. Blood flow in veins.
  • Heart beat, cardiac echoes. Determination of phases of cardiac systole by polygraphic recording.
  • Pulse wave velocity. Sphygmography.
Literature
Teaching methods
The teaching is conducted in the form of laboratory exercises, where students examine each other by a given method and draw up a protocol from the measured data.
Assessment methods
Students move on to continuing education in the next semester without the obligation to test their knowledge in this semester.
