Cíle předmětu
Myths, phantasies and stereotypes: deconstructions of Central European history (16th to 20th century). The aim is to reveal historiographical and popular myths and imaginations and show students how these can be deconstructed in a scholarly way. Students gain an insight into the issues of cultural, religious (confessional), national and political identities in Central Europe, though with special attention paid to the historical Bohemian lands.
Výstupy z učení
Graduates of the course are able to indentify chosen Bohemian, Czech and Central European national and popular myths and imaginations. They also know how these myths were constructed and how they can be de-constructed in a scholarly way. Furthermore, students become aware of the specifics and points of contact between the two historical disciplines, namely history and art history. The course can be of great value especially for students from non-European countries who do not have a close knowledge of the history and culture of the region.

Výukové metody
Teachers reflect on selected topics in an interdisciplinary dialogue between history and art history, while also leading students to discuss the possibilities of understanding cultural identities in the past and present. Teaching materials include historical texts/images (sources), scholarly texts and presentations with basic theses and recommended readings.

Written exam (in the examination period).
