Analýza a interpretace jedné z vůdčích tendencí moderního umění. Abstraktní expresionismus se stal avantgardou 40. a 50. let, projevující se především v USA jako "druhá moderna", případně "neo-moderna". Budou analyzovány hlavní práce nejvýznamnějších tvůrců.

1. Severoamerické umění a evrospké moderní umění.& 2. Vztah k expresionismu a kubismu.& 3. Tvorba 40. let: Arshile Gorky a Jackson Pollock.& 4. Jackson Pollock v 50. letech.& 5. Willem de Kooning.& 6. Clyfford Still.& 7. Ad Reinhardt.& 8. Směrem k řádu: Mark Rothko a Barnett Newmann.& 9. Ohlasy výrazu: Robert Rauschenberg a Cy Twombly.
