Course objectives
After completing the course, students should acquire knowledge about the causes and course of the American Civil War and the post-war reconstruction of the USA, understand the turning point role of this conflict in American history, realize the process of creating historical memory, and the concepts of second life and (dis)continuity in history.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- place the American Civil War in a broader context, including connections with Czech history;
- understand the role of slavery and multi-ethnicity in American society;
- work with the phenomenon of second life as a historiographical concept;
