Course objectives
The course aims at showing with practical exercises how to prepare a critical edition of a text and to analyse and solve concrete problems of textual criticism.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to work independently on medieval and renaissance manuscripts written in Italian vernacular language: preparing the edition of a single manuscript; fulfilling the recension and the emendatio; solving complex issues about the relationships between manuscript witnesses to a text; preparing a critical edition of a text by working on multiple witnesses.
  • The course includes deeper investigation on concrete texts, reading of specialised essays and practical exercises in textual criticism.
