Course objectives
The course provides the basic knowledge to deal with the analysis of the Italian lexicon from the point of view of the identification of its units and their typological classification from the point of view of their functions and their history. It provides information on the main lexicographic works of the Italian language. The acquired notions support the development of the lexical repertoire and the knowledge of the evolution of the Italian language in history.
Learning outcomes
After the course, the student will be able to make the most of the dictionaries for the practical and scientific study of the language. It will also recognize the relationships between lexicographic works and the cultural contexts in which they were born and were born.

Teaching methods
Lecture and practical activities: explanation of the basic notions and problems and their application on appropriate linguistic material.
Assessment methods
Oral test and discussion on the research materials. Students who don't attend the courses have to set an alternative syllabus with the teacher.
