The primary goal of the course is to provide an introduction into the history and development of Buddhist thought in East Asia, offering a general religious and philosophical ideas of various Buddhist schools, as well as examples of its both lay and monastic practice. Also, the intention is to overcome two millennia of its journey and provide a perspective on Buddhism in the present era, as it is practiced in Asia as well as in the United States and Europe. The motive behind this is to demonstrate that Buddhism is far from medieval or outlived religious system isolated within the monastic walls, but to illustrate original Buddhist ideas and their actualization in the present world, Eastern and Western combined.
