Course objectives
The course aims to develop the students’ skills in creating extended translations with specific functions (the aesthetic-communicative function, popularization). The study of micro-strategies and macro-strategies of translation will be led by native speakers of both the target and source languages, and it is intended to foster understanding and mastering linguistic and cultural specifics which manifest when literary texts (with literary communicative function) are translated. The methods used in the course extend the students’ translation competencies in the area of mutual transposition of Czech, German, Austrian, and Swiss, cultural specifics (cultural environment, social rites, historical allusions, intertextuality, etc.), as well as their language, literary and research competencies.
Learning outcomes
Having finished the course, students will be able to:
- use the correct methods and approaches in the individual stages of translation;
- apply adequate macro-strategies;
