- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to develop students' practical skills and to enhance their competencies of translation from English into Czech via a training of methods to be used when translating various types of texts and using specific tools.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
- efficiently use corpuses, databases, and dictionaries when translating,
- use subtitling software for translation of film subtitles,
- know the specifics of translating children's literature,
- assess the benefits and risks of working as a literary translator. - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- 6 workshops 4*45 minutes. Each workshop is going to consist of 3 basic parts: the instructor's lecture (intro into the topic); discussion; hands-on training.
- Assessment methods
- Students need to fulfill translation assignments during the semester. In lieu of an exam, students hand in a portfolio with protocols about three workshops of their own choice, including completed tasks and homework, their reflection of the skills and knowledge they have gained, and feedback regarding the class.
