Abstract
The aim of the course is for students to understand key concepts in the context of the entire legal system, particularly in the areas of labour, social and education law. In addition, family and criminal law. From these topics, with regard to the focus of their field of study, they will be introduced in detail to both the theoretical foundations and mainly to the practical implications of the legal regulation for their future (professional life). They will understand the rules and limits set by the legislation for their future work. They will understand the subject in the context of European Union law. They will learn concepts relevant to the work of a social educator, social worker or a person working in the public sphere, in the non-profit sector, in education or in social services in general.
Learning outcomes
Learners
- Understand in which situations the protective norms of labour law are activated
- They will know the mandatory and optional elements of an employment contract and understand how and why to negotiate each contractual arrangement
- Understand the importance of European Union law and anti-discrimination law in legal relations
- They will learn the rules for conducting job interviews, for the format of job offers
- Understand how the Labour Office and the State Labour Inspection Office can help a person
- They will know the rules for unemployment benefits and retraining
- They will be able to write a valid notice, termination agreement, immediate termination and probationary termination and know what to look out for when terminating employment, both from the employer's and employee's point of view
- Gain an overview of the legal framework for public health insurance, sickness insurance and pension insurance
- Understand the relevant rules for the education sector, for school principals, for teachers and for specific school professions
- They will be able to (help another) apply for a benefit
- They will know the requirements of social service contracts
- They will be able to apply the knowledge acquired to everyday situations
- They will know who to turn to for help and advice in legal problems
- Understand the concept of disability and similar instruments
- They will gain a foundation in family law and criminal law,
- Understand how the Czech judicial system works, they will also take away from the course how court proceedings are conducted

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
The course combines home preparation (done by learners before attending classes) with (follow-up) interactive lessons composed of varied teaching methods correlated with the objectives of the lessons and the intended learning outcomes.
For successful completion of the course, a load of 125 hours (5 ECTS credits) is calculated:
30 hours - participation in the class
60 hours - reading literature and relevant legislation, continuous self-study of study materials in e-learning and systematic preparation for seminars
10 hours - preparation and reflection on the self-assessment sheet, participation in the court hearing
25 hours - preparation for the written test
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
The condition for granting credit is
- writing a self-assessment sheet
- response to another learner's self-assessment sheet
- attending a selected trial and writing a reflection on what you saw
- passing a test.
