- This module aims to introduce students to the survey design methodology. Understanding survey design will help students understand and assess existing survey data and their quality, as well as give them the knowledge and skills to design questionnaires and implement surveys appropriately. This course is helpful for student planning on carrying out quantitative research as part of their dissertation/thesis or working with (secondary) quantitative data. This module will
Introduce students to existing survey database and enable them to assess how specific data can answer research questions and what are the strengths and weaknesses of particular survey data based on the methods of their data collection;
Provide a theoretical perspective of survey methodology (design and its stages, mode of data collection, sampling frame and sampling method, questionnaire flow, design of survey questions);
Provide practical examples of specific methodological issues in constructing questionnaires, implementing surveys, collecting and analysing survey data, and;
To enable students to understand the ethical principles and issues in survey data collection. - Výstupy z učení
- This course aims to deliver three primary learning outcomes. Firstly, at the end of the course, students will be knowledgeable about the existing surveys in Czechia and globally and have a good overview of the methods they can use to utilise them. Secondly, after completing the module, students will be able to appropriately design own questionnaires according to their research questions, including, choosing the design, sample, mode of data collection, and design of questions. Finally, students will be knowledgeable of ethical issues in survey methodology and the methodological side of designing questionnaires, including measurement errors and survey non-response.
