- Abstract
- The aim of the course is to support the student’s development into a critically reflective professional who integrates theoretical concepts with the realities of social work and, through the supervisory process, consciously strengthens their professional identity and resilience.
- Learning outcomes
- Within professional practice and supervision, students develop the ability to critically examine their own practice through the lens of advanced theories, moving beyond the level of merely carrying out routine tasks toward the conscious, conceptual shaping of professional support. They learn to assess clients’ stories in depth, uncover their internal dynamics, and, on this basis, select interventions that are ethically defensible even in ambiguous situations.
- Key topics
The professional placement is carried out on the basis of the student’s individual choice of workplace and supervisor. Any contractual relationship between the student and the host organization is governed by the provisions of the Civil Code and is established without the legal involvement of the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University. The schedule and content of the placement are arranged directly by the student with the designated supervisor at the placement site.
It is essential that the student is supported by a practice instructor who is qualified to perform social work. If the student encounters difficulties during the placement, they may immediately contact the departmental coordinator of student placements.

- Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Supervision sessions are delivered in a blended format—either in person at the Faculty of Social Studies or online via Zoom—according to the information provided in the IS MUNI system. The dates are scheduled in advance in the information system or, where applicable, arranged individually with the supervisor. The duration of supervision is set at 50 minutes for an individual student, 75 minutes for a pair, and 100 minutes for a group of three. Students choose for themselves whether to register for group or individual supervision. Each student is required to complete one supervision session per semester. Supervision may be completed during the placement or after its completion, including during the examination period.
The course consists of completing a professional placement of 80 hours, accompanied by supervision.
- Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
No compulsory ongoing assignments are required within the course. However, the student is obliged to ensure the timely submission of all administrative documents arising from the professional placement and supervision (Protocol on Acceptance of the Student for Professional Placement, Record of the Implementation of Professional Placement at the Master’s level, Practice Log, and potentially also Confirmation of Completion of Placement and Supervision by the employer). Emphasis is placed on carefully observing the prescribed submission deadlines.
Conditions for successful completion of the course:
