Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to better understand the art of music. The objective of this seminar, which follows the main subject Theory of Art and Musical Semiotics, is to deepen learned knowledge and its applications in artistic and pedagogical practice.
Syllabus
  • The complex analysis of selected music pieces is focused on the semantic analysis.
  • Main content of seminar:
  • The semantic notion of interpretation of music work.
  • The meaning in music.
  • The program music.
  • The signification of art.
  • An axiological point of view.
  • The Kitsch, mass culture, artistic and non-artistic music.
  • THe metodics of complex and semantic analysis.

Theoretical practising, semantical analysis of selected music works.
Assessment methods
Home works and discussion in class. Credit on the basis of a music analysis presentation (20 min.) of the selected programme music piece.
