Course objectives

Main objectives can be summarized as follows: To get knowledge and understanding of basic concepts which are necessary for related mathematical disciplines. Also it is shown how these concepts are connected to the mathematics of primary and secondary schools.

Syllabus

• Fundamentals of logic and of set theory. Types of proofs in mathematics. Cartesian product, binary relations. Numbers and basic properties. Mappings. Ordered sets, equivalence relations, partitions. Real functions of a real variable. Elementary functions.

Assessment methods

Lecture. Written examination (theory + examples). A necessary condition for writing a test is to gain credits for the associated seminar.
