Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to acquire knowledge of the anatomy of the locomotor system and its control (nervous system, endocrine system) in a scope specific for the use in sports. The course is focused on the practical use of knowledge of individual movements, and of complex body movement through understanding individual joints and muscles, but also their involvement in selected exercises. During further study, student will better understand changes that occur in the body during individual types of sports, how to focus and individualize the training load and regeneration. Completion of the Anatomy course is a necessary prerequisite for enrolling in subsequent courses at FSpS. This course gives students the opportunity to gain knowledge of the structures of the human locomotor apparatus and interconnected organ systems, which are needed for the study of subsequent subjects.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the basic structure of the human body's locomotor apparatus and understand the specifics of anatomy for use in sports
- understand the anatomy of the nervous system and the endocrine system and explain their influence on the human locomotor system
- apply acquired knowledge in the field of functional anatomy (understanding of possible joint movements and involved muscles during selected sports movements) in subsequent practical subjects
Syllabus
  • After completing the course, the student will be able to:
  • - understand the basic structure of the human body's locomotor apparatus and understand the specifics of anatomy for use in sports
  • - understand the anatomy of the nervous system and the endocrine system and explain their influence on the human locomotor system
  • - apply acquired knowledge in the field of functional anatomy (understanding of possible joint movements and involved muscles during selected sports movements) in subsequent practical subjects 1. Introduction to the study of anatomy (understanding the specifics of anatomy for use in sports), the central and peripheral nervous system (understanding the functions of individual parts of the nervous system, their localization on an anatomical model and localization of their projection on a person).
  • 2. Anatomy of the endocrine system (understanding the functions of the individual organs of the endocrine system, their localization on the anatomical model and the localization of their projection on a person, changes in the levels of selected hormones caused by physical activity, doping).
  • 3. Skeleton and bone connections I (localization of muscle beginnings and attachments on bones and understanding of possible movements in the joints using a model of the human skeleton, description of the movements performed in the joint connections on the trunk during a selected sports movement).
  • 4. Skeleton and bone connections II (localization of muscle beginnings and attachments on bones and understanding of possible movements in the joints using a model of the human skeleton, description of the movements performed in the joint connections on the trunk during a selected sports movement.
  • 5. Muscles of the trunk - including movement functions (localization of the main muscles on the anatomical model and on a person, understanding antagonistic groups of muscles, description of the muscles involved in selected sports movements).
  • 6. Muscles of the upper limb - including movement functions (localization of the main muscles on the anatomical model and on a person, understanding of antagonistic groups of muscles, description of the muscles involved in selected sports movements).

Teaching methods
-lectures on selected topics - as an introduction to study
- seminars developing topics presented in lectures, where students will actively participate in the implementation of specific tasks, work with anatomical models (individual and group projects)
- continuous testing of knowledge: the prerequisite for participation in the seminar is basic knowledge about the topic of the specific lesson, which will be verified by tests performed at each lesson
- independent preparation of worksheets
- self-study of the recommended literature
Assessment methods
The Anatomy subject is completed by an exam. The basic prerequisite for passing the exam is:
a) fulfilment of the obligations prescribed within the course (successful completion of seminars, submission of all worksheets, successful completion of tests at each seminar with at least 70%, or completion of the final test); fulfilment of these obligations is necessary to pass the exam
b) passing a written exam
Participation in seminars is mandatory. A maximum of 2 absences are tolerated. The topics on which the student was missing must be supplemented and the student have to be able to explain these topics.
