Course objectives
The objectives of the course are to deepen the knowledge about a banking sector that was gained in the course Banking I of the specialization Finance. The course does not deal with products and services offered by banks but deals with a bank as a business entity with all the specifics. The content of the course can be divided into two main parts. The first principal part deals with a system of financial management, an organizational structure and competencies of individual bank divisions, a bank informational system, strategy and planning,a control system, the role of a client in the banking business, personal management and economic analysis of a bank. The second part outlines basic aspects of banking in the European Union. Course Objectives: At the end of the course students should be able to understand the basic functions of banking systems in the Czech Republic and the European Union, especially problems of bank credits or loans, information systems, strategy and planning, control systems, the role of a client in the banking business, personal management and economic analysis of a bank.

  • 4. Bank informational system, its functions and roles in bank, security and development
  • 5. Managerial informational system, evaluation of internal resources, allocation of non-interest costs
  • 6. Bank strategy and system of bank planning, strategic and tactical planning, business plan, financial plan, other annual plans
  • 7. Control system and bank audit – external and internal audit, internal and external control, new role of audit
  • 8. Client in banking business, client-bank relation, personal management
  • 9. Basics of bank marketing, specifics, alignments and trends 10. Economic analysis of bank, analysis of balance sheet, costs, revenues and bank profitability

Assessment methods
The course is completed by a written test. The first requirement for successful completion is a submission of a semester paper and its assessment by a tutor with the grade passed. The seminar papers should be submitted according to a time schedule and serve as a proof of student home preparation within his self-study mode. The second requirement is passing two scheduled in-term tests. A final grade consists of: A written part of exam (80 %) + assessment of a student self-study part consisting of the seminar papers and in-term tests (20 %). Tutorials are scheduled in three two-hour blocks; their content corresponds to topics as follows: 1st tutorial: Topic 1-4
2nd tutorial: Topic 5 – 8, in-term test 1
3rd tutorial: Topic 9 – 13, int-term test 2 The course is finished by written exam. The Presumption of successful graduation of final exam is elaboration and delivery of written essay that will be corrected by tutor (POT) according to time schedule. It is an evidence of student home preparation in self-study with grade passed. Next condition is that student must successfully pass both scheduled control tests. Final grade is consisted of: Written part of examination (80 %) + final interpretation of student self-study during term – POTs Tests (20 %) Tutorials are scheduled in three two-hour blocks; the content corresponds to topics as follows 1st tutorial: Topic 1-4 2nd tutorial: Topic 5 – 8, first test 3rd tutorial: Topic 9 – 13, second test
