Course objectives
The aim of this course is to: 1) enhance students' language skills and systems to achieve B2 level of the CEFR; 2) develop students' academic and professional skills.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to: - participate in spoken interactions dealing with relevant educational issues; - participate actively in online discussions; - understand written texts and talks within their field; - summarise the important points in longer, spoken and written texts; - write clear and detailed texts on topics related to their field; - use a range of specialist terminology with control; - show a good command of grammar structures at B2 level of the CEFR.
Syllabus
  • Topics: 1) Educational research for teachers; 2) Education and technology; 3) Teacher wellbeing.
  • Grammar: prepositional phrases; countable x uncountable nouns; articles; a x some x any x no; conditionals.

  • In-class materials designed for teaching ESP.
Teaching methods
Pair and group discussions; oral presentations; online forum discussions; listening and reading tasks; grammar and vocabulary study.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 1) attendance (max. two unexcused absences); 2) continuous assessment (65%): details given in course materials; 3) oral exam (35%): monologue (3 mins) + discussion in pairs (6 mins). Students must complete all continuous assessment tasks in the teaching period and score at least 65% (42 pts) to sit the oral exam. Students must also score at least 65% (23 pts) in the oral exam to pass the course.
