Course objectives
The course was based on findings that were developed in an online course at the Goethe-Institut and reading the volume 7 of the DLL series. The goal is to jointly discuss and consider the problem of testing in a deeper way.
Learning outcomes
Students plan and realise a practice exploration project. They try to come up with a reflection on a phenomenon that seems to be particularly relevant or interesting for their (future) lessons. They formulate what they want to investigate or find out in their practice exploration project.
Syllabus
  • 1) In the first part of the course, students deal with the terms testing, testing and evaluating. You will learn which functions fulfil exams, tests and evaluations and what this means for your school context. 2) In the second, students will learn, among other things, which frameworks influence the testing and evaluation and what role the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages has and how they can be used. 3) Furthermore, students will learn the quality criteria and the structure and content of exams and how they can use this information for their own examination practice. 4) In Part Four, students look at what criteria can be evaluated and what forms of feedback can be appropriate. 5) In the later part of the course, we will deal in detail with the preparation of exam assignments for classroom practice. 6) Students also learn how to support their learners in developing their oral and written skills through interactive dynamic evaluation. 7) Finally, students will learn what a practical exploration project is and what suggestions the topics of the course offer for a key question for exploration.
