Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
Course objectives
At the end of the course students understand deeper a wide range of approaches to key Pubic Economics concepts (mainly efficiency). That should help them to formulate the topics and objectives of their doctoral theses better.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Compulsion and non-profitness. Economic role of the Government. Governance. Bureaucracy.
  • 2. Efficiency of the Public Administration. Public x private mix.
  • 3. Redistribution systems theory - prospective development of the Game theory.
  • 4. Optimum - concept, approaches. Setting goals and preferences. Public Interest.
  • 5. Efficiency factors. Competition within Public Sector, Performance based budgeting, Decision making specificity.

Teaching methods
Active participation is required: class discussions, argumentations exercises,extensive readings, e.t.c. Topics are selected according their relevance from the point of view of "Brno´s school" (efficiency and the role of the government is emphasised).
Assessment methods
Oral exam. Two question - general and applied ones.
A set of self made abstracts from study literature is required.
