Course objectives
The goal of the course is to acquaint students with fundamental concepts and notions of ethics and to show their application in business ethics.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- reproduce the main issues of the basic areas of ethics;
- briefly describe meaning of basic ethical notions;
- describe selected problems of ethics;
- describe these problems in practical examples;
- describe and compare selected solutions to these problems.

  • 1. Introduction to ethics
  • a. metaethics
  • - moral objectivism, moral relativism (cultural, individual)
  • - cognitivism, non-cognitivism
  • - naturallistic fallacy (open question argument), is-ought problem, morallistic fallacy
  • - egoism vs. altruism (personal advantages vs. empathy)
  • b. normative/material ethics
  • - deontology: imperative (hypothetical, categorical), moral obligaion, moral law
  • - teleology and virtue ethics: defining notion of virtue, axiology
  • - consequentialism: moral space and person, the trolley problem (Edmonds) and other examples

Teaching methods
The class consists of lectures joined with discussions and seminars.
Assessment methods
Final exam is písemná. It is evaluated on a scale from A to F.
Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams (credit tests) will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam (credit test) by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination.
