Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- understand functions and structure of object-oriented system described by UML diagrams;
- describe user requirements to the system by means of UML;
- create analytic models of the system by means of UML;
- create design models of the system by means of UML;
- choose suitable methodology for analysis and design phases of the system development;
- employ Unified Process in the software life cycle;
- exploit analytical and design patterns for system design and development;
- use software architectures and to create component systems;
Syllabus
  • Object-oriented paradigm, object properties, principles of abstraction and decomposition.
  • UML, modeling tools, usage.
  • Phases of software development, iterative and incremental development, agile vs. model-driven development, development by means of RUP - Rational Unified Process.
  • Requirements, use case modeling.
  • Analysis, objects and classes, analysis packages, use case realization.
  • Design, design classes, interfaces, components, state machines.
  • Implementation, deployment.
  • Analysis and design patterns, pattern selection and deployment, pattern catalogues.
  • Heuristics and metrics, OCL, case studies.
  • Software architectures, component systems.

Teaching methods
Theory in the form of lecturer's presentations, practical examples as the part of theoretical presentations, class discussion, reading.
Assessment methods
Lectures with examples, class discussion. Written final exam, 90 minutes (4 questions, 10 points each): assignments based on case studies, clear explanation of OO methods and principles.
