Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problems of the urban environment and its landscape background, their planning and use. The aim is also to present the logic of spatial, urban and regional (town and country) planning, the processes of creation and approval of planning analytical materials, planning documentation and spatial development policy. The objectives include a multidimensional reflection on the environmental and social contexts of urbanization, including topics such as public participation, ideological conflicts in the environment, or eco-friendly transport. The course is close to the courses taught at the Department of Environmental Studies FSS MU, which deals with rural sociology, environmental history, politics and power, or economics.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to orientate himself in the history and present of spatial planning (including basic legislation). He / she will be able to analyze problematic situations in spatial relationships, to find solutions to selected problems, and to generalize and convert particular problems into a theoretical level. The student will also be able to use some basic methods for space research. The student will be able to critically read texts from various disciplines (natural sciences and humanities), thus learning how to link knowledge from other fields and working with contexts.
