Course objectives
The course deals with political history of the 20th century.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to describe modern political history of important European countries (and the USA), and also interpret key moments and phenomenona of world politics during 20th century.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction; 2) World War I; 3) Russian Civil War and Soviet Union in the 1920s and 1930s; 4) Germany: Treaty of Versailles, Weimar Democracy and Hitler's Rise to Power; 5) World War II; 6) Formation of Eastern Bloc, Stalin Period and the Soviet Union after Stalin Death; 7) West Germany; 8) Poland after WWII and collapse of Eastern Bloc; 9) France during 20th century; 10) the Great Britain: from the Empire to the Commonwealth; 11) the USA: from the World War I to the Vietnam War.
