Course objectives
During this course students will acquire knowledge of selected philosophical approaches to the concept of justice, which can be regarded as the core field of ineterest of contemporary political philosophy. Based on this knowledge, course participants will be able to analyze several issue areas that every theory of justice has to deal with. Attention will be also devoted to the cosmopolitan ambitions of a number of authors.
Course participants should be thus able to grasp the content and sources of a major contemporary debate in political philosophy, as well as link theoretical arguments to real-world developments. Improved understanding of the normative aspect of modern societies will enable them to orientate themselves skillfully in both philosophical and political debates.

Teaching methods
The course consists of shorter lectures and in-class seminars; these two parts of each class are not strictly separated. Students' position papers based on asigned readings are discussed in the seminars.
Assessment methods
Course evaluation has three parts:
(1) Position papers. Students are expected to submit at least six shorter essays or position papers, dealing with a topic (or topics) discussed in the assigned readings. These papers should then serve as a basis for in-class discussions. Each position paper will receive 0-6 points, based on its quality.
(2) Presentation. During the term, each student (or a group of students) will have an opportunity to outline the content of both the compulsory and recommended readings publicly for the rest of the class. Students will receive 0-15 points for their presentation, based on its quality and information value.
(3) In-class activity (up to 2 points each time)
The overall assesment (A through F) will be determined by the total poiont score from these three activities

Course objectives
During this course students will acquire knowledge of selected philosophical approaches to the concept of justice, which can be regarded as the core field of ineterest of contemporary political philosophy. Based on this knowledge, course participants will be able to analyze several issue areas that every theory of justice has to deal with. Attention will be also devoted to the cosmopolitan ambitions of a number of authors.
Course participants should be thus able to grasp the content and sources of a major contemporary debate in political philosophy, as well as link theoretical arguments to real-world developments. Improved understanding of the normative aspect of modern societies will enable them to orientate themselves skillfully in both philosophical and political debates.

The course consists of shorter lectures and in-class seminars; these two parts of each class are not strictly separated. Students' position papers based on asigned readings are discussed in the seminars.
Assessment methods
Course evaluation has three parts:
(1) Position papers. Students are expected to submit at least six shorter essays or position papers, dealing with a topic (or topics) discussed in the assigned readings. These papers should then serve as a basis for in-class discussions. Each position paper will receive 0-6 points, based on its quality.
(2) Presentation. During the term, each student (or a group of students) will have an opportunity to outline the content of both the compulsory and recommended readings publicly for the rest of the class. Students will receive 0-15 points for their presentation, based on its quality and information value.
(3) In-class activity (up to 2 points each time)
The overall assesment (A through F) will be determined by the total poiont score from these three activities

The course consists of shorter lectures and in-class seminars; these two parts of each class are not strictly separated. Students' position papers based on asigned readings are discussed in the seminars.
Assessment methods
Course evaluation has three parts: (1) Position papers. Students are expected to submit at least six shorter essays or position papers, dealing with a topic (or topics) discussed in the assigned readings. These papers should then serve as a basis for in-class discussions. Each position paper will receive 0-7 points, based on its quality (2) Presentation. During the term, each student (or a group of students) will have an opportunity to outline the content of both the compulsory and recommended readings publicly for the rest of the class. Students will receive 0-15 points for their presentation, based on its quality and information value. (3) In-class activity (up to 3 points each time) The overall assesment (A through F) will be determined by the total poiont score from these three activities

Course objectives
During this course students will acquire knowledge of selected philosophical approaches to the concept of justice, which can be regarded as the core field of ineterest of contemporary political philosophy. Based on this knowledge, course participants will be able to analyze several issue areas that every theory of justice has to deal with. Special attention will be devoted to the cosmopolitan ambitions of a number of authors, which can be regarded a consequence of the ongoing process of globalisation.
Course participants should be thus able to grasp the content and sources of a major contemporary debate in political philosophy, as well as link theoretical arguments to real-world developments. Improved understanding of the normative aspect of modern societies will enable them to orientate themselves skulfully in both philosophical and political debates.

Course objectives
The course has two objectives: First, to acquaint students with selected philosophical approaches to the concept of justice, which can be regarded as the core field of ineterest of contemporary political philosophy. Second, based on this knowledge, we will identify and examine several issue areas that every theory of justice has to deal with. Special attention will be devoted to universalistic/cosmopolitan ambitions of a number of authors, which can be regarded a consequence of the ongoing process of globalisation.

The course consists of shorter lectures and in-class seminars; these two parts of each class are not strictly separated. The following are the course requirements:
(1) Position papers. Students will submit at least six position papers based on the compulsory assigned reading(s), which will then serve as a basis for in-class discussion. All position papers should have a standard structure, consisting of a) summary of the main arguments; b) the student's reaction pointing to the strongest and weakest parts of the text; and (c) questions for the seminar discussion.
(2) Presentation. During the term, each student (or a group of students) will have an opportunity to outline the content of both the compulsory and recommended readings publicly for the rest of the class. Content of the presentation should be then submitted to the techer.
(3) Active participation in seminars
The overall assesment (A through F) will be determined by the total poiont score from these three activities

Nabízený kurz sleduje dva cíle: Za prvé, seznámit studenty s vybranými politicko-filosofickými přístupy k chápání konceptu spravedlnosti, jejž lze považovat za ústřední oblast zájmu politické filosofie od 70. let 20. století. Za druhé, na základě těchto poznatků identifikovat některé problémové okruhy, se kterými se každá teorie spravedlnosti musí vypořádat, a to zejména se zřetelem k pokračujícímu procesu globalizace a z něho pramenícím univerzalistickým (kosmopolitním) ambicím řady autorů/teorií. Literatura ke kurzu bude upřesněna na začátku semestru.

  • Základní struktura kurzu: I. Vybrané spektrum teorií spravedlnosti II. Extenze principů spravedlnosti mimo hranice národního státu a související problémy Pro podrobný rozpis témat a literatury viz sylabus ve Studijních materiálech, sekce Organizační pokyny
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Výuka bude probíhat formou přednášek a návazných seminářů; tyto dvě části sebe nebudou přísně odděleny. Studenti musí během semestru odevzdat minimálně šest krátkých písemných příprav vycházejících ze zadané literatury, které budou následně sloužit jako východisko k seminárním diskusím. Přípravy o délce 1-2 strany (maximálně) musejí obsahovat (1) shrnutí základních argumentů textu (1 odstavec) a (2) vlastní reakci studenta, jež by se měla zaměřit na místa či argumenty, které považuje jednak za nejzajímavější a jednak za nejproblémovější části textu. Přípravy nesplňující tuto strukturu budou považovány za neodevzdané. Přípravy musí být odevzdány vždy do pondělí 12:00 (vzhledem k úterní výuce) do aplikace Odevzdávána v Informačním systému. Referát. Kromě písemných příprav student jednou za semestr přednese referát (20 minut), který bude vycházet z veškeré literatury zadané ke konkrétnímu tématu a který podá komplexnější pohled, než krátké přípravy. Také referát musí být před jeho prezentací odevzdán v písemné verzi, buď jako souvislý text, nebo jako osnova s poznámkami. Podobně jako v přípravách se i v referátech předpokládá (vyžaduje) vlastní vklad autora. Typ hodnocení: Písemné přípravy (min. 6) 0-40b, aktivní účast v diskusích 0-40b, referát 0-20b. Maximální zisk 100 bodů, minimum pro absolvování kurzu 60b.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Výuka bude probíhat formou přednášek a návazných seminářů; tyto dvě části sebe nebudou přísně odděleny. Studenti musí během semestru odevzdat minimálně šest krátkých písemných příprav vycházejících ze zadané literatury, které budou následně sloužit jako východisko k seminárním diskusím. Přípravy o délce 1-2 strany (maximálně) by měly obsahovat (1) shrnutí základních argumentů textu a (2) vlastní reakci studenta, jež by se měla zaměřit na místa či argumenty, které považuje jednak za nejzajímavější a jednak za nejproblémovější části textu. Student má takto prokázat, že daný text skutečně prostudoval, nikoliv jen prolistoval. Referáty. Kromě písemných příprav student jednou za semestr přednese referát (15 minut), který bude vycházet z veškeré literatury zadané ke konkrétnímu tématu a který podá komplexnější pohled, než krátké přípravy. Také referát musí být odevzdán v písemné verzi, buď jako souvislý text, nebo jako osnova s poznámkami. Podobně jako v přípravách se i v referátech předpokládá (vyžaduje) vlastní vklad autora. Typ hodnocení: Písemné přípravy (min. 6) 0-40b, aktivní účast v diskusích 0-40b, referát 0-20b. Maximální zisk 100 bodů, minimum pro absolvování kurzu 60b.
