Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to introduce the branch of gender studies to Czech student audience. Pro-feminist, or also critical studies on men and masculinities are presented on the course seminars grounded in several themes (differ every academic year slightly), such as: violence, body and sexuality, education, fathers and bosses, etc. Key theoretical texts and essays on mens movement as well as texts on problems faced and caused by men and normative masculinities are dealt with in the seminars.

  • We read basic theoretical and conceptual literature and then apply it to several selected relevant themes. 1. Men, masculinities, gender 2. The mystery of masculinity? Who is a man? 3. seminar based on class discussion, presentations, heavy reading (mostly in English), and fieldwork - writing a seminar work and reviewing an academic journal text on the topic
