Course objectives
Development of academic skills and professional language designed for the students of the Faculty of Social Sciences; reaching the B2 level according to CEFR.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to: - present a brief academic presentation on a topic in their field of study and lead an academic debate - write the summary of a presentation and a text on specific topics - write the argumentative text about a controversial topic
Syllabus
  • The thematic axis of the course is based on the social sciences, the concrete themes will be set according to the preferences and needs of the participants of the course.
  • Language, academic and other skills to be developed:
  • essay writing
  • reasonning
  • argumentation (arguments and examples)
  • oral presentation techniques
  • self-reflective writing

Teaching methods
Presentations, discussions, work with authentic materials and specialized texts, group work, autonomous on-line learning.
Assessment methods
The course is evaluated by portfolio assessment consisting of formative feedback of the assignements done during the semester, among others academic presentation and essay. Active participation throughout the course (70% attendance).
