Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
Subject is complementary to Medical chemistry lecture (VSLC011p). Students become familiar with the background and equipments of chemical laboratory. They will learn to perform simple laboratory operations. During experiments students verify some findings discussed in theoretical lessons.
Learning outcomes
Student will demonstrate understanding
- relationship between the composition of different solutions, beverages and body fluids and their pH value
- will be able to describe the general composition and role of the buffers, explain their function and apply this knowledge in explaining the role of buffering systems in the organism
- to describe the essence of the formation of insoluble and poorly soluble compounds, to identify factors that can influence the insolubility of compounds and to apply this knowledge when discussing the effect of mineralization of dental tissue
- Students will be able to handle with basal laboratory equipment and follow proper procedures and regulations for safe handling, use, and disposal of chemicals

Teaching methods
laboratory practicals
Assessment methods
Full attendance in all lessons (making up all missing and justified lessons), completion of all lab reports is the condition for the course-unit credit. Obtaining of course-unit credits of practicals is the pre-requisite for registration to the examination of Medical chemistry and for enrollment of Biochemistry in the Spring semester. Depending on epidemiological situation, assessment method may be altered. The current conditions will be posted in IS (Study materials – Course-related instructions).
Language of instruction
Czech
Further comments (probably available only in Czech)
The course is taught annually.
Information on the extent and intensity of the course: 6.
Teacher's information
Laboratory coat is necessary. Attendance in practicals is obligatory. All absences must be justified through the Department of study affairs. Ilness or some other serious reason are usually the only acceptable excuse for absence from lesson and must be officially confirmed. After being absent the student must make up for the lesson. Absences that are not apologized are not allowed to make up. Student is obliged to prepare himself for each lesson. Students that are not sufficiently prepared will not be admitted in participating in the lesson.
