Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to understand and explain issues of regional history, especially the history of municipalities and cities. Attention will be paid to theoretical issues of regional history and especially to the practical use of regional history in the teaching of history in primary schools. Special emphasis is therefore given to the didactic aspects of regional history. The issue of regional history will be further applied to Brno and its surroundings as a model region - based on the introduction of this model region (including intensive use of field teaching), students will gain the competence to prepare regional history lessons in their region. Attention will also be paid to those aspects of regional history in which it is possible to present the events of national history in the teaching of history at the 2nd level of primary school.
Learning outcomes
Student obtains basic konwledges about the theory of regional history and history of the town Brno and his environs (as a model region)
• Student can prepare the teaching of regional history in their region
• Student is well versed in basic literature and methods, related to regional history
• Student can prepare the expert text in sphere of regional history.
Student applies the acquired knowledge in the preparation of field teaching in his home region.

Teaching methods
Theoretical preparation in the form of lectures, seminars and discussions.
Field teaching.
Students' independent work will lead them to develop their own competencies needed for the preparation of teaching in the selected region.
The overall concept of the course aims to use regional history in the teaching of history at primary school.

Course completion requirements:

1st participation in seminars - possible two unexcused absences

2. creation of a portfolio for one's own region (one's own municipality, city and surroundings) on the basis of a set structure and its presentation in seminar hours - length of presentation 15 minutes

brief history of the place

ethnic composition of the village in history

important monuments of the region

important personalities of the region

maps of the region - historical and contemporary - their comparison

Bibliography on the History of the Site - Books and articles that have been written about the site

photographs (contemporary and historical - their comparison)

chronicles of the village

archive to which the region belongs (funds and their description)

historical postcards of the village and its surroundings

legends about the village

education in the village in history

interview with a witness (oral history)

the nearest archeological site

emblem or banner of the village

museums and galleries in the village and its surroundings (their focus and exposition)

preparation of a historical walk through the region (basic points)

preparation of one activity for field teaching of the given region

The resources used must be listed in the portfolio. The predominant sources must be literature (books, magazines, sources). Internet resources can be used in a limited form, but they must be cited. Emphasis is placed on the correctness of citations.

3. Discussion about the portfolio and the basics of regional history (according to the assignment in the study materials).
