Course objectives
In the course is dealt the problematics of the translation of French specialized text, of the translation practice of specialized texts, aiming especially at economics and public administration terminology. Seminars follow the lectures thematically. Attention is devoted to analyzing the text and training specific translational techniques.
Learning outcomes
After this course the students are able to: - analyze the text of the origin language - define the differences between French and Czech in the given field - apply the newly gained knowledge in the translation of the text from the origin language to the target language and vice versa.
Syllabus
  • 1. Working with dictionaries and selection of the term when translating the text. 2. Creation of terminological names in Czech and French. 3. Analysis of the source text and practical requirements of the translation technique. 4. Comparative stylistics of French and Czech; the difference in the way of conceiving reality. 5. Translation processes - transposition. 6. Expansion / processing. 7. Concentration / dilution. 8. Modulation. 9. See-auxiliary verb; factitive circumlocution.
