Course objectives
After completion of this discipline, students will have theoretical knowledge and practical skills for teaching primary geometric concepts of preschool children and developing their orientation in space.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student: • will have knowledge of basic geometric shapes and solids, of set theory and of binary relations as precondition of development of the mathematical pre-literacy. • will be able to apply acquired knowledge during own educational practise for development of geometric imagination of children. • will be able to formulate and understand the contribution of geometric thinking for the development of personality of the pre-school age children.
Syllabus
  • Development of sensory perception, the transition from visual thinking to   logical thinking in words, the development of memory and attention, the development of imagination, all focusing on the development of geometrical ideas and concepts. Creating basic geometric ideas and concepts. The hierarchy of concepts. Orientation in space  ,   in the plane orientation. Relationship plane - space. Understanding the spatial relationships between objects. Getting to know shapes, their specifications. Getting to know the basic elements. Intuitive perception of proportions and perspective. Propaedeutics measurements. Basic geometric entities and their properties. Basic geometric objects and geometric relationships. Types of lines. Geometric views, in particular axial symmetry and displacement. Practical activities to   create elementary geometric ideas and concepts. Orientation in space  ,   in the plane orientation (links above, below, before, under, over, under, next to the, left, right, center).   Alignment in images, the perception of space-plane relationship. Basic geometric formations and geometric relations (úseček precision, perpendicularity and parallelism of lines). Getting to know shapes, their specifications (square, round, pointed, triangle, square, circle, rectangle).   Create a collage of geometric shapes to the model and of their own imagination. Getting to know the basic elements. (cube, cylinder, sphere, block, prism), and their representation. Construction of the   cube in accordance with the model and of their own imagination. Intuitive perception of proportions and perspective. Symmetry, modeling, work in the square network. Geometrical shapes   in the real world. Propaedeutics measurements.
