Course objectives
The course aims to convey to students in an active way:
a) the substantive nature of the geography teaching profession,
b) activities that can be considered highly relevant for teaching geography at primary school,
(c) effective strategies for planning, implementing and evaluating the outcomes of geography teaching,
(d) opportunities for reflection on different approaches to teaching geography.
The course builds indirectly on courses taken in the course of the previous study.
Learners are expected to know the basics of physical and human geography and be familiar with the fundamentals of pedagogy and psychology.
Learning outcomes
Students:
Using their own teaching materials and preparations developed in the Regional Geography with Didactics 1 course, they will create another set of teaching materials anchored in different concepts of geography teaching.
It will justify and explain with examples why and how it is necessary to approach the planning, implementation and reflection of geography teaching in primary school from different geographical perspectives.
Describe and justify the objectives, structure, learning activities and assessment using three different teaching preparations framing one geographical topic.
Using three different examples, it will indicate how a diverse and informed approach to planning, implementing and reflecting on geography teaching in lower secondary school is possible;
Present and defend three different teaching preparations, including teaching materials for pupils based on different concepts of teaching geography (according to the given structure);
Collaborate, communicate and present as part of a team.

  • 3. Creating preparations for teaching (4h)
  • 4. Presentation of lesson preparations and disciplinary and tactical feedback (6h)
  • 5. Pupils with SEN in geography lessons - application of support measures in the educational process (2h)

Teaching methods
Combined teaching: lectures, workshops, seminar presentations and group work, individual independent work.
Assessment methods
To obtain the credits, it is necessary to a) design three preparations for teaching the selected region according to the assignment and defend them at the seminar. The geographical and didactic content and formalities will be taken into account. The colloquium will be awarded after the submission, presentation and defence of the three teaching preparations, including fulfilling the assessment criteria (learners will be familiarised with the assessment criteria in the course introduction and IS.MU).
