Course objectives
The seminar theme complements and extends lectures RJ1019, emphasizes the acquisition of theoretical knowledge of general linguistics and subsequent verification of practical examples.
Syllabus
  • 1. Origin and development of script: cuneiform (writing), hieroglyphic writing, the Phoenician script.
  • 2. Origin and development of script: the Greek script, the Roman /Latin script.
  • 3. Origin and development of script: the Slavic script (the Cyrillic script, the Glagolitic script).
  • 4. Old Slavonic - the first literary Slavic language.
  • 5. Slavic languages: characteristic, division of the Slavic languages. Current situation in the context of the Slavic languages.
  • 6. Russian and East Slavic languages.
  • 7. Czech and West Slavic languages.
  • 8. South Slavic languages.
  • 9. Slavic studies (Slavistics), Slavists, Slavic organizations.
  • 10. Russian in comparison to Czech (phonetic and phonological aspects).
  • 11. Russian in comparison to Czech (morphological and syntactic aspects).
  • 12. Electronic information resources for Russian/Czech/other languages.
