Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide students with a means for developing and extending their use of English with particular emphasis on English related to teaching. It focusses on the English needed in the classroom, for studying the EFL teaching and learning, for participating in teacher development and teacher-training courses, conferences, workshops etc. The framework of the course is based upon a course book called "Keynote Proficient" (see Literature below) and is also provided with e-learning support in Interaktivní osnova in IS. Integral part are tasks related to the teaching practice.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to use English as their main communicative tool of instruction for their future careers as English teachers; they will be able to analyze, assess and present professional educational materials; they will extend their level of English towards C2.
Syllabus
  • The course will gradually cover Units 1-6 from Keynote Proficient (see below), each session will also comprise students' presentations as well as extra practice of various aspects of grammar/vocabulary. Syllabus: Introduction. Unit 1: Creativity (not only in schools). Unit 2: Hopes and fears. Unit 3: Perception and human senses. Unit 4: Human interaction. Unit 5: Economic resources. Unit 6: Practical design. Review of units 1-6. 7.Constant reference will be made to the teaching practice throughout the course.

Teaching methods
class discussion, presentations, practice of productive/receptive skills, home study, observations at teaching practice
Assessment methods
The classes will be based on class discussion, pair-work and group-work, listening, reading and speaking. A communicative approach will be used. Obtaining the final credit for this course draws on continuous assessment throughout the term, which comprises: - active participation, contribution and preparation; using observations at teaching practice for some of the following tasks: - 2 online forums - 1 essay - 1 presentation - 1 credit test The general passmark is 70%.
