Course objectives
The subject of the Phonetics and phonology is divided into a theoretical part (lecture) and practical (seminar). Students will get acquainted with an overview and classifications of French phonemes in the background of the Czech system, systematically undergo basic phenomena, i.e. the suprasegmental. liaison, stress, rhythm, intonation. The main objective is to make students familiar with the basic differences between sound systeme in Czech and French language, and to be able to flawless pronounciation. In the practical part, in the seminar, the students will practise targeted individual sounds of the French phonetic system. Part of the course is the continuous training of the correct spelling - dictations, emphasis is placed on language skills and the correct pronunciation - practicing of poems by heart, the recording and subsequent analysis of the students ' pronunciation, listening to recordings by native speakers of the French language. Students can work independently because this course has an e-learning support.
Learning outcomes
After the lecture student will be able to: - discuss the problems of French phonetics; - describe the manner and places of individual voice articulation; - overwrite the text in the international phonetic transcription API; - apply the knowledge and skills in practice. After the course student will be able to: - improve the pronunciation of individual phonemes in the French phone system; - practice spell, speech skills and correct pronunciation; - practice international phonetic transcription.

  • Syllabus of lectures 1. Introduction to phonological system. 2. Respiratory system, speech organ. 3. Overview of the French oral vowels. 4. Overview of French nasal vowels. 5. Overview of the French semi-vowels. 6. Overview of the French consonants. 7. The concept of the phoneme and sounds. 8. Construction of French syllables and the rhythm of the group. 9. Accent and intonation. 10. Liaison and enchaînement. 11. Aspects of the smooth speech – assimilation, elize. 12. Dictations — practicing of correct spelling. 2. Recitation of poems – practicing correct pronunciation. 3. Loud reading of continuous text-practice of correct pronunciation. 4.
