Course objectives
The course is focused on the didactics theory and literary education in the environment of kindergarten. Students gradually get acquainted with various possibilities of working with artistic literature, which is intended for the preschool children age group. On the basis of examples from practice and students' own creative activities and reflections, they acquire various interpretive procedures and forms, usable for their future professional orientation.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be:
a) acquainted with the basic theoretical issues of literary education for the preschool period;
b) know the range of possible practical activities (interpretive, reproductive or creative) for literary educational work with artistic literature;
c) able to choose an artistic text according to the needs of the child's age and his / her developmental dispositions, etc.;
d) able to apply theoretical knowledge and practical experience, choose creative methods and forms when working with artistic text;
e) able to reflect his work and the work of others on the basis of an analysis of the activities used.
Syllabus
  • 1. Didactics of literary education as a science and its importance in preschool preparation of children (content, goals, methods, etc.).
  • 2. Literature as a part of aesthetic education in kindergarten. Literature and experience as part of an individual's personal development and knowledge. Forming literary competencies and creating reading habits.
  • 3. The role of the teacher in the artistic texts selection for work with preschool children, specific ways of reception and reflection of the artistic text.
  • 4. Didactic interpretation (methods and functions) of the artistic text and its use in preschool education.
  • 5. Interpretation procedures for preschool children when working with poetry. Practical demonstration and work with students.
  • 6. Interpretation procedures for preschool children when working with prosaic text. Practical demonstration and work with students.
  • 7. Searching for possible ways of students in interpretive work with artistic text.
  • 8. Use of procedures and methods of other arts in working with literary texts (fine arts, theatre, music, audio-vision).
  • 9. Play as a socio-cultural phenomenon, but also a way of working with a literary text in kindergarten. Dramatization and artistic interpretation (children's recitation).
  • 10. Visuality as a basic part of aesthetic communication with a child recipient. Illustration and its possibilities when working with preschool children.

Teaching methods
Teaching is based on a combination of different teaching methods: work with selected literary texts, work with illustrations, group discussion, guided discussion, individual work of students, interpretation, heuristic methods, reflection and self-reflection.
Assessment methods
Course completion: colloquium.
Requirements for completing the course: Theoretical-practical written work as a basis for the colloquium. Specific requirements are published in the Study Materials of the course in the IS.

The course XCJp17 Methodology of Teaching Literature and Reflective Practice is connected with the course XCJp15 Reflected practice on the didactics of literary education. The first of them (XCJp17) is focused on the theoretical anchoring of literary education and its use in pedagogical work. Reflected practice on the didactics of literary education (XCJp15) then serves for practical work of students in the implementation of activities, reflection and self-evaluation.
