Course objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to become familiar with the specific skills necessary for the work of a teaching assistant in a school. During the practicum, students will work on specific tasks as arranged with the supervising teacher. The tasks are based on the checklist of activities in the assistantship.


The student is specifically introduced to the preparation of the teaching space at the beginning of the school year, the setting of rules and the administration related to the beginning of the school year.


The student reflects on the development of his/her professional competencies in the role of teaching assistant.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
*understand the process of supporting pupils with SEN
*organise goals and choose the methods that are useful in the process of tutorig with respect to a specific child
*communicate with the teacher regarding the planning,
*implementation and evaluation of educational activities in the classroom
*coordinate the work of one student as well as groups of students make contact with pupil´s parents
*communicates individually with a pupil or with a group of pupils in a primary or secondary school. The student interacts with pupils in pedagogical situations.
*works with a structured record of challenging pupil behaviour.
Syllabus
  • The student carries out pedagogical practice, which consists in taking the role of a teaching assistant in a school classroom.
  • The practice is continuous for 2 weeks in September. The total number of hours is 60, of which 40 hours are spent directly in the school and 20 hours are devoted mainly to preparation, consultation and supervision.
  • 1. participation in the organizational meeting (online - link on the website and in the interactive curriculum)
  • 2. arranging the placement and entering the school's placement into the IS
  • 3. implementation of the practice and processing of the outcomes
  • 4. participation in the faculty reflection meeting

The record of the arranged internship at the school is written by the student in the binding term, it is registered in the IS via the INTERNSHIP portal (https://is.muni.cz/auth/praxe).

Assessment methods
The student will receive feedback on the pedagogical activity performed from the cooperating teacher at the school. The written outputs from the internship will be entered into the prepared application in the information system. Outputs: The student is evaluated based on the following outputs from the internship:
1. Completion of administrative steps:
- Before starting the internship, the student will enter the agreed school into the internship agenda in the information system (IS). He/she will fill in the necessary information: school name, name and contact information of the accompanying person, internship date.
- No later than the day of commencement, the student will have the school management sign the Protocol on the student's acceptance for the internship, which will then be entered into the IS under his/her internship.
- If the student works at the school as a teacher or teaching assistant, he/she will also enter the school into the agenda and insert a confirmed Confirmation of the internship from the school management.
2. Processing the case report and inserting it into the answer sheet. The student will prepare 2 case studies based on experience from practice/according to an interview with teachers. They will submit them via IS by the required deadline. The outcome is evaluated according to predetermined criteria.
3. Confirmation of completion of the practice by the supervising teacher: The supervising teacher will fill out the evaluation form in IS, evaluating the student in the areas of: completed attendance, active participation in classes and other school activities, understandable and professional communication with teachers and students, documented administrative documents at school.
4. Participation in scheduled group reflections: The student will register for the reflection date via IS and actively participate.
5. Completion of self-assessment – ​​Professional Development Map: The student will complete the self-assessment tool Professional Development Map, which focuses on the core outcomes of the course.
Náhradní absolvování
The internship can be carried out on an alternative date only for the following reasons: a) if the student is on a foreign study or work placement and returns after 30 September, b) in case of illness, c) the internship date conflicts with another compulsory internship. The student undertakes the internship at a school of their choice, ideally in their place of residence. The student will arrange the school of their choice in advance. This internship is not paid for by the accompanying teacher, when arranging the internship with the teacher and the school management, please present the Internship Admission Protocol (signed by the school principal and the student) - the form can be found in the interactive course syllabus or on the Department of Education website - www.ped.muni.cz/pedagogika/praxe/bc-praxe/prez

The internship takes place continuously, optimally for 2 weeks in September. It is recommended that the placement is undertaken during September 2025.
