Course objectives
The course is intended for students who have already successfully passed the subject AEB_A11 Documentation techniques (or earlier AEA_26 Documentation techniques) and who want to improve their skills in drawing documentation of archaeological artefacts from various materials (ceramics, iron, bronze and other metals, stone, glass, organic materials).
The course offers the possibility of individual work according to interests of individual participants.
At the end of the course, each student will create a plate with his/her drawings in a form suitable for publishing.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, students should be able to:
- create by oneself documentary drawings of complicated and less usual types of artefacts, including possible drawing reconstruction - document very small and very large artefacts using the reduced or magnified drawing
- digitise and edit drawings and create a plate with drawings in a form and quality suitable for publishing
- carry out more complicated editing to prepare a plate with drawings for publication, e.g. stylistic unification of drawings when the pictures used are borrowed from various sources (editing, re-drawing of images in a unified style)
Syllabus
  • The course offers the possibility of individual work according to interests of individual participants. Students will have the opportunity to document artefacts from the collection of Department of Archaeology and Museology or the Section of Classical Archaeology. They also can use their own archaeological material. The focus of individual students must be approved by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. It is possible to consult the documentary drawings of archaeological material for bachelor’s and master’s theses.
  • Suggested thematic areas:
  • POTTERY
  • Documentation of complicated vessel forms, possibility of idealised reconstruction of a complicated form according to preserved analogies
  • Asymmetrical (deformed) vessels, very large vessels
  • Spouted vessels, lids, lamps, crucibles
