Course objectives
Against the background of Europe's political history, cultural figures from Germanic space are presented Nobel Prize (for literature). Focussed is literary-historical contextualization of the laureate's creation as well as cultural-political aspects decision making. Attention is evenly distributed throughout the spectrum of 20 and 21. century, individual lessons are devoted to T. Mommsen, B. Suttner, T. Mann, H. Hesse, H. Boll, G. Grass, E. Canetti, E. Jelinek, K. Hamsun, S. Undset. Less known ones will be mentioned cases (E. Johnson, H. Martinson, H. Pontoppidan), but also B. Dylan.
Learning outcomes
The student thanks to the course - will be better oriented in the cultural-political history of Europe, which is reflected in the choice of laureates. - will deepen his knowledge of more well-known authors (T. Mann, G. Grass), he will be less familiar with the contemporary cultural context. - gains inspiration for further reading of important literary monuments of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Teaching methods
The course is implemented in a lecture form, online support is used as a database of analyzed texts, on the basis of which graduates prepare a shorter essay on a selected topic.
Assessment methods
The condition for completing the course is the submission of an essay on a topic based on one selected lecture or a report. The essay as well as repeort are given to the teacher who lectured the chosen topic.
