Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain main issues of the modern history of Lithuania and Poland (from the 17th century to the 20th century).
Syllabus
  • 1) Lithuania and Poland in the 17th ct. Status of Ukraine. 2) The kurfuerst of Sachsen as the king of Poland and the kurfuerst of Brandenburg as the king of Prussia. 3) The end of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth: internal political mechanisms and the European context. 4) Napoleon and the Vienna-congress. Lands of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as part of the Russian, Prussian and Austrian empires. 5) National revival of Lithuanians and Poles. National revival of Ukrainians and Byelorussians. The changing status of Jews. 6) The rise of national states of Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus.
