Course objectives
It is the first part of a six-semester cycle of the Lithuanian language course. In this course students learn the basics of Lithuanian: alphabet (exercises in phonology and pronunciation), morphology of nouns, adjectives and verbs (declension and conjugation), elementary conversational topics (greetings, introduction, family, professions, etc.).
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student will be able to read and pronounce Lithuanian text correctly, to understand the basic morphology of nouns, adjectives and verbs, to have an elementary conversation in Lithuanian and understand Lithuanian texts in textbooks.

Teaching methods
Lectures on grammar system, reading, listening, speaking, translation exercises, team work, homeworks
Assessment methods
The course ends with an exam, which includes two parts: oral and written. In the oral part, the student must show his competence to hold a basic conversation in Lithuanian (introducing, asking for information, etc.). The written part consists of a test in which knowledge of Lithuanian grammar is checked.
