Course objectives
The course focuses on the application of literary knowledge and acquired academic writing techniques. The aim of the course is the practice of critical thinking about the source and specialized literature of the subject, which is aimed at the creation of literary scientist works.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- to apply the knowledge of academic writing;
- critically think about literature;
- better elaborate the project of the diploma thesis.
Syllabus
  • Metafiction in 20th–century Czech and world literature
  • Early Modern religious and didactic literature as a tool for catechisation and contemporary debate on confession;
  • Literary imitation as a tool for interpretation of the literary text (Fišer).
  • Spiritual literature and its authors in the context of the 1930s-1950s. From the Second Republic to the political shifts in the 1950s.
  • The overlaps of genre and aesthetic literature in Czech literature after 1989 on the example of fantastic literature
  • Genres and their alterations in 19th-century Czech Literature
  • Reading and interpretation of chosen academic texts concerned with modern approaches to literature (Eco-Criticism, Literary Darwinism, New Aestheticism and Formalism, etc.) (Bubeníček)
  • Reading and interpretation of passages from academic monographies concerned with old literature.
  • Who’s afraid of the metanarration: narrative analysis of self-reflective texts (Kotásek).
  • Who’s afraid of the Postmodernism: the burden and applicability of the term Postmodernism in Czech cultural context (Kotásek).
  • Analysis of culturally communicative strategies: Czech underground (Kotásek)
  • Analysis of culturally communicative strategies: dissent, Charta 77 (Kotásek)
