Course objectives
The main objectives of the course: making students aware of the process of decolonization of the French colonies in the broader context of French history;
understanding the roots of liberation movements in pre-colonial and colonial period and the definition of their various forms;
analysis of the different stages of the decolonization

  • Colonization, its course and character.
  • The birth of liberation movements.
  • French colonial empire during the II. World War.
  • Conference in Brazzaville and the French Union.
  • The war in Indochina.
  • Emancipation of Morocco and Tunisia.
  • The war in Algeria.
  • French Community and the Year of Africa
