Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc;
understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or specific field related language;
deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken;
deal with unprepared conversation on topics that ranged from familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events) to specific topics (e.g. economy, drugs, critics of movies and perfomances);
present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to fields of interest;
explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options;
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- understand the main points of speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc
- deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken
- deal with unprepared conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life
- identify a moderate number of character components and high-frequency characters in areas of immediate need
- identify key facts and some details in descriptive material on daily life.

Assessment methods
Final written exam (computerized, on campus) and oral exam (in person). The student needs to pass both the written (70% above) and the oral exam.
Besides the exams, the following rules must be observed:
1) Up to 4 unexcused absences are allowed in one semester. In case of 5 or more unexcused absences, the student will not be allowed to sit the final exam.
2) In order for an absence to be excused, the student should approach the Study Department of the Faculty with an official request.
3) The student fulfills all tasks given by the teacher (assignments, presentations, etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence.
4) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved.
FORMAT OF FINAL EXAMS:
The written exam takes place on a Monday or Tuesday, followed by the oral exam on Thursday or Friday of the same week. Only after a student passed the written part will s/he be allowed to sit the oral. The oral part takes the form of 1-on-1 conversation with the main examiner. The students who passed the written part will be approached for a time slot for the oral.
The oral part takes place in the presence of a senior member of the department as a co-examiner ;-)

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:

understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc;
understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or specific field related language;

deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken;

deal with unprepared conversation on topics that ranged from familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events) to specific topics (e.g. economy, drugs, critics of movies and perfomances);

present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to fields of interest;

explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options;

Besides the test, the following rules must be observed:

1) 4 absences allowed in one semester. In case of 5 or more absences the student fails.
2) The students fullfils all tasks given by the teacher (homeworks, presentations etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence.
3) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved it.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
 Evaluation Method (70%↑, can attends final exam.) Students have the right to participate in the Final exam only if they have total score (Attendance + Assignment + Quiz+Test) above 70%.  Attendance and Discuss in class 25% 3 unexcused absences allowed during the semester. You need to participate in class discussions.  Assignments 30% 1. You have to hand in your assignment on time. Besides, please finish the assignment before the class. And if you are absent on the class when your assignment should be handed in, the deadline of your assignment will be postponed to next class spontaneously. 1 late assignment 23% 2 late assignment 16% 3 late assignment 9% 4 late assignment 0% 2.Sometimes according to the lesson it might have the extra assignments.  Quiz 20% The quiz will test the Vocabularies and grammar for 10-20 minutes. Moreover, we will have some unannounced Quiz sometimes.  Tests 25% 10 times. If you lost one time, you should have the test in next day. Otherwise you will get 0 from your that time grade.  Final exam ( Written+Oral 70%↑: pass, 70%↓: fail) Written Exam: The exam will test from Lesson 9 to Lesson 16. Oral Exam: Presentation.

2) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved it.
3) Assignment: Student must hand in ALL of the homeworks. Homework which doesn’t match the regulations will be regarded as missing delivery. (Regulation: Homework should be handed in on time; only hand-writing is accepted). Small Tests: The average of score of ALL of the small tests should be at least 70%.
ONLY the students following the rules above are allowed to attend final exam. Final Exam: 70% and above: pass.

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:

understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc;
understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or specific field related language;

deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken;

deal with unprepared conversation on topics that ranged from familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events) to specific topics (e.g. economy, drugs, critics of movies and perfomances);

present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to fields of interest;

explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options;
